Applications to attend any of these activities are submitted in December prior to the date of the activity desired, and participation in a Review Board by Long Island Group staff is part of this process. To attend any of these activities, typically Cadets must be at least 14 years old, have completed the Wright Brothers Achievement (i.e., be a Cadet Staff Sergeant) and have successfully attended/completed a New York Wing Basic Leadership Encampment.
This annual exchange program gives CAP Cadets and CAP Senior Member escorts, as well as their counterparts from around the world, the opportunity to become unofficial ambassadors for two weeks, visiting participating countries and promoting international friendship and understanding through a common focus on aviation. Held in Jul-Aug in Washington DC.
CAP Cadets who achieve at least the rank of Cadet Second Lieutenant are looked on favorably by all the military academies because of their prior leadership training. In addition, CAP's contacts with Government officials make it easier to gain the recommendation needed for application to those academies.
